G-RATED - A Puppet Show Musical
in the Muriel Griffiths Room of The Bailey Theatre, Trail BC
Two Shows: Sunday March 10 at 1:00PM and 4:00PM
Tickets are PICK YOUR OWN PRICE from $5-25 each
60 minutes. No Intermission. No bar or concession.
G-Rated is a musical puppet show about puberty, identity, confidence, LGBTQ2SIA, boundaries and consent. Intended for students aged 10-13, two performers will work seven colourful puppets in this 60 minute show. The show gently introduces these themes in an approachable medium with relatable characters and catchy tunes. The overall aim is to introduce basic language to start conversations around topics that require some finesse. Original songs like ‘The Awkward Song,’ ‘Be Kind to Yourself,’ and ‘I’m Trying on Identities’ are written and performed in a modern, musical theatre style.
Show Creator Nadine Tremblay explains, "Our initial aim with this show was to fill an identified gap in West Kootenay education around sex and healthy relationships, something that was being avoided by educators and parents alike. Turns out that this medium (puppets and songs) is ideal for addressing a topic that can be uncomfortable for some to talk about and potentially challenging for students to absorb."
By the end of the show students, educators and parents will have a basic language for fostering healthy relationships including boundaries, friendships, sexual preference, and self-care.
ABOUT THE CAST AND CREATORS
The cast and creators of G-Rated are puppeteers/singers/theatre artists Nadine Tremblay and Phil Loosley. Both live, work and play in the West Kootenays on the traditional unceded territory of the Sinixt People. Combining puppetry, musical theatre and improv, this team of two have performed and toured Western Canada with their original musicals for all ages. Their work with youth include workshops, private lessons, full scale musicals, choir direction, the infamous Game Show Show and curriculum based arts education in schools with Learning Through the Arts.
Script co-written by Almeda Glenn Miller and Nadine Tremblay, music by Nadine Tremblay, directed by Almeda Glenn Miller.
The G-Rated team extends a HUGE thank you to all their friends, family and supporters who funded the making of the Puppets through Kickstarter AND the very talented Eva Linka who made these beautiful puppet people.
