The Jazz at the Griff series, presented by Trail & District Arts Council, brings you Laura Landsberg That’s Amore! Songs about Love, Anti Love, and the Stuff in between on Thursday, February 13 at 7:30 pm. Enjoy the jazz club vibe of The Griff as you savour a glass of wine in a setting that is up close and personal with the band.

Nelson Vocalist Laura Landsberg will share her versatility and musical prowess as she explores the many layers of love and lust. Expect to laugh, cry and feel the love.

Joining Laura are: Dave Restivo - Piano; Jill McKenna - Bass; Paul Landsberg - Guitar; Joel Fountain - Drums.

Laura Landsberg’s talent comes naturally as the daughter of world-renowned trombonist and composer Ian McDougall. Landsberg has performed with Desafinado, a Brazilian group out of Spokane, played the Kaslo Jazz Festival, the Sandpoint Jazz Festival in Idaho, performed with Chris Brubeck, the bass playing son of Dave Brubeck, Miles Black, Pat Coleman, Steve Dawson, Daniel Lapp, as well as appearing with the Spokane Jazz Orchestra, Hugh Fraser and VEJI (Vancouver Ensemble of Jazz Improvisation). www.lauralandsberg.ca

David Restivo is a pianist and composer and one of Canada's most respected and influential jazz artists. A 3-time winner of the National Jazz Pianist of the Year Award, and JUNO Award winner. He is well known for his work with Rob McConnell's Boss Brass and Tentet, the Mike Murley Quintet, and legendary songwriter Marc Jordan as well as many other well known musicians. daverestivowebsite.wixsite.com/daverestivo

Jill McKenna is a multi-instrumentalist with a particular love of collaboration and improvisation in jazz, folk and alternative sounds. Originally from Hamilton, Ontario, McKenna then lived in New York City studying jazz performance on the upright bass at the New School. McKenna is often found playing alongside a variety of artists, including on NPR’s Tiny Desk with dodie, and on the road with Maddie Storvold. Currently based out of Nelson she is the founder of Marivon, an eclectic group of international recording musicians, who have joined forces to make music surpassing geography and genres.

Paul Landsberg was born in the Bronx, and grew up in New Jersey, a half hour’s drive from New York City. He trained and taught at Berklee College of Music in Boston. He toured with a top-40 cover band that played five sets a night in hotels in the eastern United States, and by his early-30s, when he moved to Nelson, the in-demand freelance guitarist had already spent two decades playing and performing.

Joel Fountain’s career highlights include performing with: trumpet virtuoso & ‘Order of Canada’ recipient Jens Lindemann; Canadian Jazz sensation Laila Biali; jazz trumpet legend Maynard Ferguson; Grammy nominated jazz big band the “One O’clock Lab band”. Thurs. Nov. 28: Nelson Jazz Collective featuring Mike Fahie

- The Nelson Jazz Collective because so many of Canada’s best musicians are in Nelson. This stellar ensemble of Mike Rud on guitar, David Restivo on piano, Rob Fahie on bass, Joel Fountain on drums, and special guest NYC based Mike Fahie on trombone, will play music composed and curated by Mike.

Thurs. Dec. 12: Rick Lingard Jazzified Christmas

- Rick Lingard as lead vocalist and saxophonist, Juno award-winners Mike Rud on guitar and Dave Restivo on piano, Steve Parrish on drums, and Doug Stephenson on bass will warm your season with a “Jazzified Christmas”. Featuring old seasonal favorites and originals with a jazzy, funky twist.

- Experience the vibrant sounds of spring through fresh interpretations of perennial songs that embody renewal and celebration. Melody, Jazz Artist of the Year at the 2023 Western Canadian Music Awards, will be joined by Kiyoshi Elkuf on tenor saxophone, Mike Rud on guitar, Doug Stephenson on acoustic bass, and Tony Ferraro on drums.

Sat. Apr. 12: Blue Moon Marquee

- JUNO Award Winners Blue Moon Marquee are influenced by anything that swings, jumps or grooves. Jasmine Colette a.k.a. Badlands Jass plays upright bass and a foot drum kit, singing in honey-dipped tones. A.W. Cardinal’s distinctive and soulful vocals accompany his guitar for the swinging energy of jazz-tinged blues.
